no roof

A partly enclosed built object whose interior has no roof or roof-like shelter, excluding objects with retractable roofs.

A built object has no roof when it is partly enclosed by walls, a framework, or some other surrounding structure, but there is no roof or roof-like shelter covering the interior space. This is common for stadiums but also occurs in other building types. It does not apply to structures with a retractable roof.

Walls or another surrounding structure must define a partly enclosed interior. The condition concerns the absence of a covering over that space.

An open retractable roof is still a retractable roof. Its temporary open position does not establish the no-roof form.
