flak tower
A heavily fortified military tower designed to hold and protect defensive antiaircraft equipment.
Flak towers are military structures designed for protecting cities from hostile aircraft. They are heavily fortified to hold and protect equipment for shooting down airplanes.
Their solid construction makes them difficult to demolish, but their scarcity, size, strength, and unusual form have inspired conversions to several alternative uses after the ending of wartime hostilities.
The fortified structure was designed around air defense. Later conversion to another use can retain the recognizable physical form of the former military tower.
