homeless shelter
Living space provided as a charitable refuge or public service for people without their own homes.
A homeless shelter is a living space provided as a charitable refuge or public service for persons who do not have their own homes. These may be operated by governments, religious organizations, or charitable institutions.
The space supplies refuge to people who lack a home. It can be operated by a government or by a charitable or religious organization.
The purpose differs from ordinary discounted housing offered under a tenancy. Within charitable housing, homelessness is the particular need served by this shelter.
