pinpoint location

The most central balancing point within a boundary or footprint outline. For buildings, use a 'city' field if coordinates are unknown or unclear.

The pinpoint location of an object or geographical area is the optimal point of balance within its boundary or footprint outline. This is normally the geometric barycenter, the balance point of the area treated as having uniform density.

However, when the barycenter falls outside the boundary of the object being pinpointed, the pinpoint must go on the most reasonable point of balance within the outline.

The position concerns the balance of the whole footprint or boundary, rather than an entrance, an address marker, or the midpoint of one edge. An irregular outline can therefore require a point different from the center of its bounding rectangle.
