facadectomy
An incorporated facade from a demolished structure, retained in place or reassembled as part of another structure.
A structure features a facadectomy when all or part of a demolished structure's facade is incorporated into its own facade or into an interior wall. This can be the facade of the previous structure on the same site, or it can be moved from another site. When the recycled facade comes from the preceding structure, it may remain standing during the demolition of the old structure and the construction of the new; or it may be disassembled and reassembled on the same site. If it is reassembled, it is not necessary for it to occupy the same position as before with respect to the site.
The reused material forms all or part of a facade or an interior wall in the receiving structure. Both retention during rebuilding and disassembly followed by reconstruction are included.
A newly built imitation of an older facade does not contain that earlier facade. Moving genuine facade fabric from a different site, or changing its position on the same site, is compatible with this feature.
