Room lighting using semiconductor light-emitting diodes to convert electrical energy into light.

LED (light-emitting diode) lighting uses semiconductor diodes as a system for room lighting. Using semiconductors, electrons within an LED device recombine with electron holes to release photons (light). LED lighting is highly energy-efficient.

The semiconductor diode is the light source. This distinguishes LED lighting from an incandescent filament and from the mercury-vapor discharge used in fluorescent lighting.

The category describes the technology used to illuminate the room rather than a single fixture shape. The lamps can be arranged to suit the room without changing the light-emitting principle.
