ward
An official urban territorial unit used for local administration, representation, or both.
A ward is an official urban territorial unit used for local administration, representation, or both.
Its status varies by jurisdiction. A ward can subdivide a municipality, or it can be a local-government unit directly below a province-level authority, as in Vietnam's current two-level system.
An electoral ward can exist solely to choose representatives. An administrative ward has continuing territorial functions beyond an election; a Tokyo special ward is a separate municipal class with its own elected government.
