semicircle

A building plan with one main straight edge and one arc, occupying no more than 75% of the corresponding circle or oval.

A semicircle is a shape formed by one straight side and one arc. It may be an exact half-circle, a thin slice of a circle's or oval's edge, or a bulbous shape with a prominent straight edge. It cannot be more than 75% of a complete circle by total area, or of a complete oval if the completed perimeter would form an oval.

Any side of a semicircle can have slight irregularities as long as the whole shape produces the general impression of a semicircle. The circular side can be composed of multiple straight lines that meet at oblique angles.

This perimeter category includes more than an exact half-circle, but retains its 75 percent maximum. An arc describes a curved, open-ended plan, while this form has a prominent straight edge closing the rounded outline.
