Vietnamese province code
The two-digit code identifying a Vietnamese province or centrally governed city, set by Decision 19/2025 and administered by the statistics bureau.
Decision 19/2025, issued on 30 June 2025 and in force from 1 July, replaced the coding in place since 2004. It followed the restructure that cut the country from 63 provinces to 34, being 28 provinces and 6 centrally governed cities, and abolished the district tier between province and commune.
Two digits, with the leading zero significant. An Giang is 91 and Can Tho 92, which are easy to confuse in older sources written before the restructure.
A code stays with its unit for that unit's lifetime and is not reused. Most units merged in 2025 kept the code of one predecessor, so an unchanged code does not by itself mean an unchanged boundary.
