A religious memorial is a place or object representing or symbolizing some subject of religious significance, such as a saint, scriptural scene, angel, deity, spirit, or religious text. It is commonly assigned to statues and crosses.
The represented subject supplies the religious meaning. It can be a deity or sacred text, so the memorial does not have to commemorate a deceased person.
A statue or cross can have this function alongside its physical form. The subject represented distinguishes a religious memorial from a general personal or historic memorial.
