community
A named populated place recognized by a register without being a separate unit of government.
A community is a named place that a register lists as a distinct settlement although it has no council of its own. The name is used where a country's statistics office needs to count a place that its administrative law does not recognize.
Because it has no government, a community sits inside a municipality rather than beside one, and its boundary comes from a statistical delineation rather than from law.
Where a place does have its own council, use the type the country gives it, such as town or village.
