NUTS 2
The middle tier of the European statistical region classification, the level most regional policy is measured at.
NUTS 2 is the middle of the three tiers of the European Union's classification of territorial units for statistics. It is the level at which regional funding is allocated, which makes it the most consequential of the three.
Its units are drawn to a population range rather than to an administrative logic, so in some countries the tier matches a real region and in others it groups or splits units that exist in law.
The tier is a statistical construct. Where its boundary matches an administrative region, that region is a place in its own right and this is an attribute of it.
