date

Time values of any precision describing when data is valid or entered, including actual and projected dates.

Dates refer to time values of any precision which apply either to data itself or to the input of data. A date can be actual or projected, depending on whether the entry date is before or after the validity date. Date values are stored as points in time, but may be displayed as ranges (start and end dates in combination).

Date values form the basis of timelines, making it possible to display historically valid data and projected changes in sequence, or to take time-sensitive data snapshots of situations in the past or future. Wherever data values change in the real world, multiple data entries can be saved with the outdated entries available for recall. The date values for any data help to determine whether the entry is an update instead of a correction.

Except where specified otherwise or altered for display purposes, dates are formatted like: YYYY-MM-DD 23:59:59.
