A rack-supported building is an enclosed structure, usually used as a high-bay warehouse, which is supported internally by a dense framework consisting of storage racks, usually reaching several meters from the floor to the ceiling. They are normally built with a steel frame, of which the storage racks form an integral part. Facilities in these structures often feature automated storage retrieval systems, as the high shelves are not normally designed for easy human access.

While its outward appearance is similar to a shed or a low-rise building, its internal structure makes it a distinct form that is not readily interchangeable with other similar forms.

The racks support the enclosure as well as stored goods. Ordinary shelving placed inside an independently supported warehouse does not establish this form; automation and a steel frame are common but not required.
