maximum address number

The highest house number that occurs on a street, marking the upper end of its address range.

A street carries house numbers between a lowest and a highest. This field records the highest that occurs, which fixes the upper end of the address range.

The range is what lets an address be judged before the building behind it is known. A number above the maximum belongs to another street, or to an extension nobody has recorded yet.

The highest number is not a count of buildings. Gaps, separate even and odd sides and suffixed numbers such as 14a mean a street ending at 200 rarely holds 200 addresses.
