gabled roof

A roof which slopes evenly in two directions from a central ridgeline, forming two flat gabled sides at opposite ends.

A gabled roof is a simple roof divided by a central ridgeline, on either side of which it slopes downward. On the other two sides (at each end of the ridgeline) are gables, i.e. flat, triangular extensions of the facade bordered by the two sloping lines of the roof.

The sloped sides of a gabled roof may be straight or bent.

Gabled roofs can have more than 4 sides if set atop an L-shaped or other bent floorplan in which the ridgeline curves or bends at an angle.
