annual electricity consumption

The total number of kilowatt-hours consumed by a structure or other object within a year.

The annual electricity consumption of a structure or other object is the total amount of electric energy measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh) which all users and systems within the object consume in one year, with the exception of energy used by battery-operated appliances within the structure or object. The energy may be derived from the power grid, from an on-site generator, or from any other local production of electricity.

This amount is a total of the energy actually used plus the energy wasted.

Electricity generated on site remains part of consumption when it is used within the object. The total is not limited to purchased electricity, and useful output alone omits the included wasted energy.
