Student apartments are rental apartments which are exclusively or at least explicitly for the use of students, usually but not always limited to a particular educational institution. These offer a greater degree of autonomy to residents than a dormitory, generally with the same privacy and privileges as a regular apartment building. In many cases student apartments are restricted to upperclassmen or graduate students at a university.
The designation can be exclusive to students or explicitly directed toward them. A connection to one particular educational institution is common but not required.
Student dormitories generally impose more shared arrangements and less individual autonomy. Student occupancy alone does not turn a normal apartment into a dormitory.
