A recording studio is a site designated for the production of sound recordings, usually in a format suitable for sale (e.g. digital recordings). It does not refer to a concert venue where recordings are frequently made during an audience performance. Recordings can be musical, spoken, or produced from any other form of sound.
The recorded material can be music, speech, or other sound. A saleable format is usual, without requiring every recording to be offered for sale.
A concert venue can produce recordings while retaining its audience-performance purpose. A music rehearsal space is intended for practice; recording that practice does not alone make it a recording studio.
