planned lifetime

The length of time that an object is designed to last, as of the end of the design phase.

The planned lifetime of a structure or other object is the amount of time it is expected to remain in its completed state as of the time when its design is finished. Structures with a planned lifetime of less than 10 years are generally regarded as temporary structures. If the object lasts longer or shorter than expected, this field remains unchanged, because it is intended to reflect the designed lifetime rather than the actual lifetime.

The expectation is fixed at completion of the design phase. Years already spent in service do not reduce this original planned duration.

Actual survival beyond the plan, or demolition before its expected end, concerns the object's observed history. Neither event changes the lifetime that the completed design originally anticipated.
