skiing

Places for recreational or competitive skiing with snow-covered slopes or surfaces.

A skiing location is a designated area, structure, or building where persons can travel on skis over a snow-covered surface. The surface can be sloped (for downhill skiing) or flat (for cross-country skiing). The snow cover can be seasonal (depending on the weather) and/or artificially produced. It can be outdoors or indoors. This usage does not cover ski-jumping facilities.

Both sloped downhill areas and flat cross-country surfaces are included. Snow can be natural, artificial, or a combination, and the facility can be indoors.

Ski-jumping facilities retain their separate usage. A snow-covered surface alone does not establish ordinary skiing when its designated purpose is jumping.
