A place where government officers check people entering a country or a restricted zone within one.
An immigration control point is a place or area where government officers check persons entering their country or a restricted zone within a country. Control activities include checking passports and visas, interviewing persons, conducting searches, and retaining persons who are forbidden entry.
Although the vast majority of immigration control points are at national borders, internal immigration control points exist in certain places; a well known example is between Hong Kong and mainland China.
Immigration control often shares space with customs control.
This should not be confused with an immigration office, which is an administrative office handling all kinds of immigrant and foreign resident affairs.
