drilling platform

A structure on a body of water designed to drill beneath its natural bed and extract material through the drilled hole.

A drilling platform is a floating, anchored, or supported structure on a body of water, which is designed to drill under the natural floor of the ocean, sea, or lake, and to extract material from the drilled hole. These structures may have a stable location for many years, but can usually also change location.

The platform can float, be anchored, or rest on supports. Ocean, sea, and lake installations are included.

A platform can remain at one location for years without being incapable of relocation. The water-based drilling and extraction purpose distinguishes it from a general working platform.
