curved stairway

Related terms: semihelix

A stairway following a curved path without completing a circle or helix, including stacked half-circular flights.

A curved stairway forms a bend or undulation along a curved line, but does not complete a circular path or form a helix. This form of stairway includes semihelical stairs, consisting of stacked half-circular flights at successive floor levels.

The curve can be a bend or an undulating path. A complete circular or helical route is excluded.

Stacked half-circular flights retain this curved or semihelical designation. They are distinct from a continuously circling helix stairway.
