Cross-laminated timber is a form of wood construction in which structural members are made of layers of wood glued together with adjacent layers at right angles.
The alternating grain directions distinguish cross-lamination from a built-up member whose wood layers all run in the same direction. The bonded layers work together as a structural member.
Cross-laminated construction commonly forms panels. Its defining feature is the orientation and bonding of the layers, rather than a requirement that every member have a narrow beam shape.
