reception antenna

A metal coil or other device, usually on a roof, for picking up airborne broadcast signals.

A reception antenna is a device mounted on a structure, usually on its roof or a high wall, which receives airborne television, radio, or other communication signals. A reception antenna is usually a branched metal rod or a coil connected to a stem, unlike a transmission antenna, which is usually a high mast.

The antenna receives communication signals arriving through the air. Its receive function distinguishes it from a transmission mast carrying equipment that broadcasts signals outward.

A satellite dish uses a parabolic plate or bowl for satellite communication. The reception antenna described here is mounted on the structure and identified by its reception function; reception is not limited to analog broadcasting.
