titanium mine

A mine extracting natural titanium ore deposits, especially minerals such as rutile and ilmenite.

A titanium mine is a site for the extraction of natural titanium ore deposits from the earth. The primary ores for titanium are rutile and ilmenite. Titanium is a strong, corrosion-resistant, silver-colored metal, and a chemical element with atomic number 22. It is used to produce lightweight metal alloys, especially for use in aerospace, as well as in medical and dental implants, mobile phones, and many other applications.

The extracted material is titanium-bearing ore. Rutile and ilmenite are the principal examples, rather than a requirement that both occur at one site.

The aerospace and medical examples describe uses of the recovered metal. A facility producing those finished products without mineral extraction is not a titanium mine.
