room

A unitary space in a structure, bounded by walls, partitions, or boundaries with other rooms.

A room is a functional or ceremonial unit of space within a structure. It is normally defined by the walls and doorways surrounding it, but may also be defined by partitions or by invisible boundaries which are nevertheless apparent at the interface with another room (for example when a dining room bleeds into a living room).

A room has a recognizable functional or ceremonial identity within the larger structure. Walls and doorways commonly mark its boundary.

A full enclosing wall is not required at every edge. An apparent transition between adjoining spaces can distinguish a dining room from a living room in an open layout.
