A framework mast is a narrow or tapering freestanding tower anchored to a single foundation, which supports its own weight and does not require lateral wires for stabilization or other support. These are usually used for signal transmission in telecommunications, especially radio and television.

The open framework carries its own weight and provides the tower's stability. External guy wires are not required to hold it upright.

Transmission equipment is a common use, but the supporting form defines the mast. A solid single pole and a laterally wired mast have different structural arrangements.
