NYC BBL

The Borough-Block-Lot number identifying a tax lot in New York City, assigned by the Department of Finance.

A BBL identifies a tax lot in New York City and is assigned by the Department of Finance. It is ten digits: one for the borough, five for the block, four for the lot. Manhattan is 1, the Bronx 2, Brooklyn 3, Queens 4 and Staten Island 5.

The number names land, not a building. One lot can carry several buildings and a large development can span several lots, so a BBL and a building do not correspond one to one.

Where a single building has to be identified in New York, the Building Identification Number does that. SKYDB keeps both, in fields of their own.
