Medical testing facilities are places designated especially for performing medical tests in a laboratory or clinical setting, generally away from patients and sometimes also apart from doctors. Normally tissue or fluid samples, or diagnostic data, are sent by a doctor or a medical facility to such a laboratory for assistance in reaching a diagnosis.
The laboratory analyzes specimens or diagnostic information supplied for a medical purpose. The patient need not visit the testing site, and the requesting practitioner can work at a different facility.
This testing purpose distinguishes the space from a consultation or treatment area. Location in a clinical building alone does not make every room a medical testing facility.
