polyurethane foam

Insulating foam made from polyurethane and sprayed onto a surface or into a cavity.

Polyurethane foam is an insulating material made from a synthetic polymer with organic units joined by urethane links. It is applied from a gun as an expanding spray, and can be applied to the surface of a wall or panel, or blown into wall or roof cavities. It has a high insulation rating, but gives off toxic fumes when burned.

The material is applied in place as an expanding foam. A prefabricated polyurethane board has a different insulation form.

Wall surfaces and wall or roof cavities are included application locations. The polymer identity distinguishes polyurethane from the other sprayed foams.
