beam bridge
A bridge with a rigid spanning member resting on supports at both ends of each span.
A beam bridge is the simplest of all bridge types, requiring no support other than a rigid member resting on both ends of the spanned length. Beam bridges are generally limited in their size, and are not practical for extremely long spans. Short spans can be crossed with wood beams, and steel can be used for medium spans.
The spanning member carries loads between its end supports. Its basic arrangement does not depend on suspended cables or an arch beneath the deck.
A sequence of supported beams can create more than one span. Each beam still rests at both ends, unlike a cantilever that projects from an anchoring support.
