chess
A place especially designated for chess contests or recreational play, with spectator seating optional.
A chess site is a place designated especially for contests of chess. These may include spectator seating, and often feature tables with permanent chessboard markings on them. Chess facilities can be used to host professional or amateur chess tournaments, or they may be sites for free recreational chess games.
Professional tournaments, amateur contests, and free recreational games are all possible. Admission charges or professional participation are not necessary characteristics.
Permanent board markings and spectator seats are possible fittings. A room containing an unused chess set is distinct from a place specifically designated for playing chess.
