tapered roof

A pointed, cone-like roof with more than four sides or a curved plan, possibly carrying a small ornament at its peak.

A tapered roof is a pointed roof which gives the appearance of a cone. It can rise from any shape of base, but the roof itself must have more than four sides so as not to appear pyramidal, or else it must be curved in plan. A tapered roof can have a small cupola or ornament at its peak, or be decorated around the edges by finials or other ornaments.

The building beneath can have any base shape. The side-count or curved-plan condition applies to the roof itself.

A pyramidal roof has three or four sides meeting at a point. A small cupola or finial can sit on a tapered roof without changing its overall cone-like form.
