Arts and Crafts architecture belongs to a broad movement beginning in 19th century England, which reacted against the mechanization and standardization of the industrial revolution by reintroducing human craftsmanship back into the manufactured environment.

Buildings designed in this style generally feature forms of decoration which are not derived directly from traditional styles but arise from the builder's creativity within the program allowed by the construction. Variants can be more or less idiosyncratic, ranging from wild organic fantasies to very simple decorative brickwork, stone trim, or carpentry patterns.

This style had a strong influence on other styles of the early 20th century, especially Prairie School design.
