wildlife conduit

A passageway created or designated for wildlife movement, usually across barriers to maintain habitat continuity.

A wildlife conduit is a passageway created or designated especially for the transit of wildlife, usually to preserve continuity of a habitat or ecosystem and thereby avoid reducing wild animals to smaller and smaller habitats. Wildlife conduits may be bridges, tunnels, or other designated channels or pathways. They usually cross man-made structures such as roads, rail tracks, canals, pipelines, viaducts, etc.

The passage can be a bridge, tunnel, or another designated pathway. A bridge form is not mandatory.

Its special purpose is wildlife transit. An ordinary road that animals occasionally cross does not establish a wildlife conduit without that designation or provision.
