running track

A constructed running surface, usually arranged as an oval, for racing and other track events.

A running track is a surface constructed for running and especially for racing and other track events, such as jumping and hurdles. Running tracks normally have an oval layout with a measured lap of 400 meters and a grass field in the middle. A standard layout has two straights of 84.39 meters joined by two semicircular bends.

A standard outdoor track provides a measured 400-meter lap in its inner running lane. That measurement follows the running line, not the inner edge of the grass field.

The track is constructed for running and associated track events. Its configured racing surface distinguishes it from an ordinary recreational footpath.
