floodlights on approach area

High powered illumination directed over an entrance area, access route, or loading dock.

An object has floodlights on its approach area when high-powered illumination is installed that can be directed over a driveway, loading dock, or other major access route. This does not include simple guide lights or streetlamps. Floodlights may be used to enable work activity at night, to ease the approach, or to enhance security.

The illumination covers a major approach or access area. Driveways and loading docks are examples, and the light can support night work, approaching traffic, or security at that access route.

Guide lights and ordinary streetlamps are expressly excluded. The feature therefore requires the high-powered directed illumination described above, rather than any lighting near an entrance.
