recessed lighting

Incandescent lighting which is flush with or recessed above the ceiling plane.

Recessed lighting is a form of ceiling-mounted light fixtures, in which the sockets and bulbs (often spotlight bulbs) are recessed above (behind) a dropped ceiling, and shine out of recessed grooves or cavities. Uncluttered ceilings are a major aesthetic advantage of recessed lighting.

This form is only applied to interiors with recessed incandescent lighting, as fluorescent lighting is very often embedded behind a dropped ceiling and is not as distinctive of a lighting system.

The incandescent source remains part of this classification. Fluorescent fixtures concealed above a dropped ceiling are expressly excluded even though their mounting can also be physically recessed.
