archive element

A document stored as a reference in order to support data on a particular object.

An archive element is a document which is stored and connected to an entity in order to maintain supporting evidence for data. Archive objects can be stored in any electronic format, and can also refer to simple notes which comment on data.

Archive elements can be connected to buildings, companies, and other entities, and are useful in resolving questions about data as well as storing manifestations of original data sources. In some cases the value of data can be ranked higher by reference to an archive element connected with the same entity.

The document serves as retained evidence for the entity's data. A simple electronic note can fulfill that role as well as a more elaborate source document; the archival purpose does not depend on one file format.
