logs

A facade composed of round logs joined in parallel formation.

A log facade is composed of several parallel rounded logs joined together along their long sides. In order to create a sealed facade, the logs are usually partly planed or flattened on two sides in order to form an unbroken interface with the adjoining logs. Where two sides of the facade meet, logs may be interlocked with their perpendicular counterparts using notches.

Logs used in building facades are usually arrayed horizontally, but can also be arrayed vertically. Log facades usually serve as load-bearing structural walls, and are normally used for buildings in or near forests where logs are plentiful. They are sometimes used to create an intentionally rustic appearance.
