A structure is used for commemoration when its existence is at least partly for purposes of memorializing some person, group, event, object, or other thing.

This usage is primarily applied to monuments, sculptures, and fountains, although it can also apply to buildings which are constructed in order to memorialize something.

Commemoration is not applied as a usage to every structure which is named after someone. The structure must actually be created with the purpose of being a memorial.
