school division

A school division is a division whose areas assign an address to a school. The school authority draws them, and a residence inside an area carries the entitlement or obligation to attend the school named for it.

Capacity governs the boundary, so an area is redrawn when a school opens, closes or fills up, and the cut may run along a street rather than around a quarter. Each school type divides the same ground separately, so a single address belongs to several such areas at once.

An administrative division covers the municipality for its own purposes and changes rarely. A school area exists to place pupils and is redrawn as their numbers move.
