marbling

A facade color mixture with streaks, swirls, or mottling that does not form clearly defined shapes or a distinct pattern.

Marbling is a mixture of colors on a surface where the different colors do not form any clear shapes, or where they blend into each other without a defined pattern. Examples include streaks, swirls, mottling, and arrangements of colors similar to the veins in marble. While the arrangement of colors may appear to be random, there may or may not be a system to it, and the choice of colors may be limited or deliberate.

The arrangement can be deliberate even when it appears random. A limited or carefully chosen palette does not exclude marbling.

The name describes the color arrangement rather than requiring marble stone. Broad, smooth transitions occupying substantial areas instead have the more specific gradation description.
