An insurance agent is a vendor of insurance. A company is connected to a property as its insurance agent when it has closed a deal to provide property insurance or construction insurance on that property. The agent may or may not be the same company as the provider.

The property connection requires a completed deal for property or construction insurance. Merely advertising insurance to an owner does not establish that connection.

The agent can also be the insurer, but the two entities can be separate. Selling the policy and providing its financial protection are distinct functions within the transaction.
