A cannery is a facility where food products, such as fruits, vegetables, fish, meats, jellies, syrups, etc., are sealed into jars or cans in preparation for distribution to consumers. Canneries often include facilities for food processing as well as packaging.
Both cans and jars fall within the packaging scope. The facility can process the food before sealing it or combine packaging with other processing steps.
A plant putting inedible goods into containers has a different packaging use. The food contents and their sealing for distribution distinguish the cannery.
