usage zone
A section of a mixed-use structure defined by the extent of one particular usage type.
A usage zone is a section of a mixed-use structure which matches the extent of one usage type. For example, if a building houses both a hotel and apartments, the floors and lobby of the hotel would constitute one usage zone and the floors and lobby used for apartments would constitute another.
The zone follows the space devoted to that activity. It can include associated floors and a lobby rather than only the rooms where the main service occurs.
Usage provides the boundary, rather than ownership or tenancy. A hotel zone and an apartment zone can therefore be distinguished within the same building.
