railcar speed (max)

The maximum speed normally achieved by a railcar on a rail pathway or amusement ride.

The maximum railcar speed is the highest speed normally attained or allowable by a rail car of any kind on the fastest length of track on a structure or pathway. This applies to roller coasters as well as rail traffic pathways, and the speed can be achieved with the aid of gravity or purely through motorized propulsion.

A short section of track can supply the maximum even when most of the route is traveled more slowly. Dividing the entire route length by the journey time would give an average speed.

The value can describe the speed normally reached or the allowable maximum. The means of propulsion does not exclude a gravity-driven coaster or a powered train from this measurement.
