crane

A freestanding lifting machine anchored to the ground or fixed tracks, excluding mobile and construction tower cranes.

A crane, when listed as a structure, is a freestanding machine anchored to the ground or installed on fixed tracks, which consists of a framework with moving parts for lifting heavy objects. These are very often used at industrial sites and shipping terminals. This type of structure does not include vehicle cranes which can be driven off the site, nor does it include tower cranes used in construction or anchored sideways to another structure.

Movement of the lifting mechanism, or travel along its fixed tracks, is compatible with a fixed installation. The machine remains tied to its site.

A vehicle crane that can drive away is outside this structural form. Construction tower cranes and cranes supported sideways by another structure are also excluded.
